Getting Eyes On Target With An Archery Peep Sight

By Gary Turner

Physically speaking, animals of sizes comparable to human beings are stronger and faster than human beings. Within the primate family alone, every type of primate even close to the size of a human being physically outclasses humankind so much that no person, not even one a steady diet of anabolic steroids and weightlifting, can hope to catch up. But gorillas and chimps and bonobos are not the dominant species of the planet. Homo sapiens rule the planet, and is the only one of the great ape species to be able to do so. Humans are the dominant species for a reason and that reason is better developed brains which allow for much higher levels of abstract thinking and problem solving, allowing humans to create tools that the other species can only barely learn how to recognize as tools let alone use. Among those tools are the bow and arrow, and innovations to that apparatus includes the archery peep sight.

Sights and scopes are tools. Most of the time, they are attached to a weapon, to improve the range of a user. Their man job is to make aiming, especially over a distance, easier to do.

Using aftermarket optics offers a tactical advantage. The right scopes can help a person hit a target from a distance. A night vision scopes offers much needed assistance in low light situations.

In places where it is legal to do so, weapons such as firearms and bows, whether the regular variant or the crossbow, can equipped with rails. Attachments like scopes and laser sights can be easily attached to the rails. Even some toy guns come attached with rails that can be fitted with military grade hardware.

Most weapon accessories are widely available as sporting goods stores. A lot of them are also available online. Private sellers at conventions may also have some equipment to sell.

Lots of people take up martial arts as a hobby. Some people practice kendo. Others try their hand at mixed martial arts. Others go shooting on the weekends. But other try archery, both as a meditative exercise and as a physical exercise.

Before guns and artillery, archers were the long distance killers on the battlefield. In Europe, archers were used to shower oncoming enemies with arrows, killing or incapacitating huge numbers of enemy infantry. Archers were the snipers and the fighter jets of their day.

Of course, riflemen replaced archers in real life, but fiction, particularly fantasy fiction, is a little more stubborn. Many writers want their character to be able to fight at a distance, but also do not want their characters using guns, either for censorship purposes or for political reasons. As such, writers often turn characters into archers.

The greatest of humankind has always been intellect and ruthlessness. Those two factors led to the creation of weapons. Those weapons led to human dominance.
