By Stephen Williams

You are probably reading this article right now because you are looking for a new pet or puppy for company and friendship. You may have set your eyes upon a Cavalier King Charles Spaniels puppy and are excited to start your adventure by purchasing or adopting one, especially after insistence from friends or what you have seen on the net. Before you do make the final plunge, do read on in this article to see if you will be able to handle this puppy.

The breed will set you back a couple of dollars in the 1800 dollar to 3000 dollar price range. The actual final price will actually depend on the current demand and supply conditions for the breed as well as being affected if it has champion bloodlines or not and whether or not it will come from a reputable breeder or trader. It is by no means cheap so it is wise to read up on it if it is really for you.

Upkeep and maintenance in the long run will not come cheap either. It will be prone to heart problems and hernia problems as well. In addition as it does get older and reaches the 9 to 13 year range, it will get its fair share of knee joint problems and eye problems as well.

It is however a lovable pet to have and it loves human companionship. It is a dog that loves to settle on your lap as much as possible and will snuggle and cuddle up to soft pillows and blankets if you let it. This dog is quite easy to train and will be willing to please and responds quite well to praises and treats.

It must be noted that at times it can be overly dependent on human companionship and thus may give it separation anxiety sometimes. Prolonged absences of master or owner will give it stress and it may start to whine a lot as well as do some chewing on things until they get destroyed. Thus you must commit a lot of time for it.

If you have any sort of canine or dog allergies then do think twice about getting this breed. The fur of this breed is not hypoallergenic and thus it may cause you some complications. The fur is also likely to mat or tangle frequently and so it is recommended that it be brushed at least once weekly.

You must be extra careful when keeping this dog outside the home on occasion. It loves to chase other animals like squirrels and chipmunks and also this includes butterflies and low flying birds. When it gets excited in the chase, this dog is not mindful of where it is going so it may hurt itself. Therefore make sure that it is leashed or at least properly fenced in.

Taking care of this breed will have its fair share of challenges and it is not a breed to be taken on by a novice owner. Make sure of what you are in for when taking on this one by reading up on your literature on how best to take care of it and do your research by asking other owners personally or in forums so as to prepare yourself better.
