By Betty Gibson

When it comes to holistic health and well being, there are often a number of options. In most cases, the focus in this area is on prevention. As such, there are many areas in which individuals can learn how to harmonize mind body and spirit Torrance.

While there are a number of dance studios and classes around the world, non-alcohol bare-foot smoke-free improvisational dance groups can often provide a place of peace where one can let go and become one with the dance. Whereas, Yoga classes are offered in a number of different locations and settings. As both offer a place of "letting go, " and freeing oneself from thoughts of the mind, each activity often helps individuals find more balance in life.

While many individuals attend Yoga classes, others practice at home. Whereas, there are others whom are so dedicated that one can sit in meditation doing Yoga for hours in public venues. Whatever the case, it is not the location of practice but rather the quiet solitude, exercise and movement which benefits those involved in these activities.

While neither of these activities are an aspect of organized religion, it should be noted that Yoga is often considered the 6th School of Hinduism. As such, while not necessarily religious, many Yoga practitioners often feel a spiritual connection to the practice. Whereas, while some improvisational dancers do connect with a spiritual aspect, most of these type dance groups are not based in any aspect of religion.

The history of Yoga begins in the Far East. After which, the practice became a part of popular culture in Western traditions. In fact, it was not until the early 1980s that the practice became a well known aspect of health and well-being. With the onset of popularity around the world, the practice is now considered one based on philosophy and mysticism as associated with Hinduism rather than aspect of the religion.

Yoga has been a force of controversy when it comes to Western medicine for years. For, there have been several studies at various schools and universities with regards to Yoga having a positive effect on issues such as diabetes, cancer, asthma and schizophrenia. While this is the case, most all of these studies have been inconclusive when it comes to finding a connection with relation to a cure or improvement in the lives of patients.

When it comes to personal goals of those seeking out these activities, most often it is to clear the mind and promote an overall sense of better health and well being. In addition, individuals having participated in these activities often suggest having a stronger sense of clarity and focus when it comes to all areas of life.

Ultimately, whether participating in a free form dance group or practicing Yoga, individuals are going to see more balance and harmony in life. In addition, sharing space with others of similar interest can also be beneficial in this area. For, when one can commune with others, relax and let go of negative thoughts while involved in exercise that also benefits the body, the individual often becomes more balanced in all areas of life.
