Advantages Of Musk Essential Oil

By Kenneth Harris

There is a wide variety of essential oils in the market ranging from synthetically manufactured oils to animal extracted ones. If one is looking for an exciting option that comes with a load of benefits, then musk is the type to try. Musk essential oil is pure animalistic oil originally derived from males of that deer sexual glands. However, these oils can be manufactured synthetically and is rumoured to work as an aphrodisiac.

Between the organically extracted form and the synthetically produced one, the readily available of the two is the synthetic oil. A major contributing factor to this is the endangerment of the musk deer specie. On the organic side of the divide, its organic oil is very rare, rarer and more expensive than its equivalent weight in gold. To extract just a kilogram of organic this oil, tens of deer go into the process. But headways in technology have opened up new opportunities. As a result, majority of synthetic forms are derived from mixtures of Rose petal essential oil, Ambrette seed oil, Amber oil etc. These are further used in the manufacture of various perfumes around the world.

Musk oil has various uses and applications. However, there are two major ways this pure animalistic oil is used; medicinally and cosmetically. The Indians were documented as the first to use the oil for medical purposes that included the treatment of fevers, coughs, heart disease, nervous disorders and stomach aches. The Arabic people and the Byzantine people were referenced to have used the oil for perfumes as early as the 6th century. From medications to lotions and perfumes, the use of this oil invades almost all areas of our lives today.

Another distinctive quality of this aromatic substance is its smell and as such is used in a lot of perfumes and deodorants. With its long-lasting effect, it can be applied as a lotion and even serve as some kind of insect repellant. Because of its lightness on the skin, it is also ideally suited for humid climates as it doesn't stick to the skin when one sweats.

Another advantage this aromatic substance has over other oils is that it is composed of fewer chemicals and its interaction with the body is minimal with lower risks for side effects. It therefore, does not limit the quantities and number of times one can apply it, more so, when used for skin softening and moistening.

Due to its anti-inflammatory qualities, this pure animalistic oil can be inhaled when one has a cold. The oil has a soothing effect that relieves one from the discomfort of sniffles and curtails severe sneezing. It can also be used effectively in the treatment of stomach aches when applied.

Due to advances in technology, the synthetic type can easily be mistaken for the organic one as the similarities are staggering. With this, the oil is readily available to be used in the medical and the cosmetic industries.

But despite the advancements made by science and technology to produce synthetic musk oils, the deer is still being poached and hunted for its natural oil. These killings have put the deer on the list of endangered species. And if these killing aren't stopped on time, we may be facing a future where deer will not exist.
